Inventing Hope in Nonsensical Terror

Inventing Hope in Nonsensical Terror
Abbigail H.

---------------------

If I could dream, I'd ride the rising tide
But the watch from the underground of my fears tells me I would know
Everything
About the meaningness of the world of nothing.

If my big toe were to dip in the lake by
The moon I would know that
This is not a sign meant to be read,
Where an elephant could leave his signature with every step
And a leaf would wisper to the fog
As a snake does to its dinner.

If I could touch you,
I'd be saved but there are things i would know
About the way your father used to read to you and I would
Kiss
The tips of your fingers on your left hand,
The one you use so often,
And take from you the secrets of your past and the future of my own

My identity was a gift I recieved with a wrapped up
Book on Christmas Eve
In a stocking stiched by my mother and hung by my father.

If I could fill the swimming pool in your back yard with
Caramel
And keep that memory among
The precious few others of my times with you,
Among the mark of their adjacent standing, I'd be the happiest man alive.

I could once bend down and touch my toes in my skinny jeans
And make it so they didnt rip.

And it's hard to imagine that
With the wind blowing all the time in the little world we live in
The celery still manages to get between my teeth.

I could steal the hurt of the one who always teased me about my house,
Especially in the summer,
With its creaky steps.
So I fixed the steps and across the land,
All the way to California, the story of my step-fixing story is told.

If I could search the world for the adventure that would make this
Life worthwhile,
I would ask,
"What's the point of going?"

To this day, if I could I would fly like a bird from Atlantis to Portugal-
Like that dragon from that one book of stories your mother asked your father to read to you when she was gone,
Or that raven that stopped the world from turning
And saved the princess,
Just like I'll save you.
